Can You Be Too Positive?

Updated: Apr 30

Cultivating a positive mindset is essential to living your purpose and making a difference. You hear that from me a lot. I am a serial optimist, after all. It's easy to exude "positive vibes" when you win the lottery or when those shoes you were eyeing finally go on sale, right? But what happens when you find out you owe another $10K in taxes and your dog needs surgery? I certainly would not be feeling especially "positive" then, would you?

The truth is sometimes life is just plain hard. Things happen beyond our control that make us angry, sad, or worse. They are not fair, and we have done nothing to deserve it. So what does being positive mean then? Being positive does not mean being delusional. Feel all the feelings. There's no point in burying now what you'll only have to dig up later. But then, challenge yourself to take a step back. Realize the only thing you can control is how you choose to respond. That's your superpower. Will you try to learn from what happened? Fail smarter next time? Be grateful for ever having the good at all?

Or will you let the bad define you? Remain a victim? Stay stuck in what went wrong? Being positive, to me, means being resilient. Trusting that no matter how hard things get, you will survive. You are stronger than you think, and you will ask for help when you need it. You might even come out the other side even stronger.

Being positive is not about denying reality.

It's about choosing how you respond to it. If you'd like to chat more about cultivating your positive mindset, click here to book a complementary discovery call.
